my daughter is 4 what size violin should i buy her?

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

we took her to see tso and now she wants a violin.. what size should i buy her?

The violin generally comes in 7 different sizes: 4/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16; 4/4 size being the largest and 1/16 size being the smallest. To find out what size violin best suits your daughter, you need to know the length between her neck and the middle of her left-hand palm (when her hand is fully extended and raised perpendicular to her body, just like holding an imaginary violin). Once you find that out, you can refer to the chart i listed below (courtesy of violin outlet lol) Every person is different but for the most part i’m guessing that your daughter is suited for a 1/10 size violin. But if all else fails and you’re still unsure: just try asking assistance from someone from the store…i’m sure they’d be happy to help lol
Good luck

4/4 (Full Size violin) – 23 inches in length

3/4 – 22

1/2 – 20

1/4 – 18 1/2

1/8 – 16 1/2

1/10 – 15

1/16 – 14

How much could I buy a nice violin for?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I also want a particular pickup that was mentioned to me. I previously asked how much I could get an electric violin for, and someone said you could attach a certain pickup to the violin to make it sound like an electric one, which is fine by me since I’m a beginner. ;]

So how much would the violin and pickup be?

Even better than that, get the pick-up built in.

It’s nice.

Can my violin be saved?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I had to leave some of my stuff in an unkind person’s garage. These items included my violin that my father bought for me a decade ago. It wasn’t used much, I only played it lightly in school, but while it was in the garage it suffered a little bit of moisture damage and some freezing temperatures. The violin stayed in a hard sided case, there’s no visible cracking or warping but the sound post has come loose inside and the bridge has gotten damp and needs to be replaced. Are these repairs easy and affordable? The violin is not a pricey violin, so is it cheaper to just buy a new one? Is there any other signs of damage I should look for on a fiddle that has been through what it has been through?

Appreciate anyone’s advice!

It doesn’t sound like that would be a very costly repair. Then again, instrument repairs can get expensive very quickly.

Most of my experience is with woodwind instruments, so I wouldn’t be able to give you a very accurate estimate. Your best bet would be to call up a few places and ask for some quotes. I would suggest that you go to someone who’s recommended, though; I found my guy through my middle school band teacher and have used him ever since because he does such good work.

Are there any songs like these?

Does anyone know of any songs that are like "The Mass" by Era, "Ebla" by E.S. Posthumus, and Final Eclypse by V-Mitrox? Its somewhat electronic. I love pianos and violins too.

What violin strings do I buy?

Monday, November 16th, 2009

I recently bought a new 1400$ violin. I have not chosen new strings yet though. The current problem is that the string tension is so high, even when it is in tune, that I can hardly press the strings down. I cannot freely play a note without major support from my left hand, which means I cannot use a vibrato. I’m wondering if it is the strings or the bridge that is causing this problem.

If it is the strings, what type of Dominant strings do I buy?

(Also, the violin is in tune ; D)

If you recently bought a new violin and spent $1,400, it should have new strings on it, and you should not have to buy another set. It sounds like you need to take it to a luthier and have them shape the bridge a little bit. It may be too high. Changing the strings may not help the problem.

She also said that part of it is chipped and it is scratched somehwere near the fine tuners. Im very worried and i want to know about how much i would have to pay to repair these damages. Please help and thankyou!

Better hope it’s not a Stradivarius… they’re $3,500,000+

i really love violins and im good at it so where can i get one?

I would say the best place was ebay.co.uk. They are very cheap ranging from about £50- £200. Depending on the model. I have ordered instrumetns before and they are excepetionaly good quality and value for money.
